Elaine Atay

Bio
I am a doctoral candidate and sessional instructor in Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology, supported by Killam, UCalgary’s Eyes High, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. My research interests include Indigenous mentorship, racial diversity in organizations, Indigenous/cross-cultural research, mentorship (broadly), organizational training, leadership, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). I am also a long-standing and highly active member of the Department of Psychology’s EDI Committee, working on key initiatives such as the development, implementation, and evaluation of Affinity and Allyship (A&A) groups in the department. I have also advised on UCalgary's ii' taa'poh'to'p Working Circle 2 and CSIOP's EDI Standing Committee. My dissertation focuses on Indigenous approaches to mentorship and their effective application to organizational settings for Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in positions of mentorship. My forthcoming contributions explore topics on Indigenous occupational health psychology, Indigenous leadership practices, civil discourse in organizations, and EDI training development. Through my work, I aim to inspire unity and hope and promote healthier dialogue in an era of hyperpolarization and social divide. Outside these efforts, I enjoy practicing yoga, hiking, climbing, reading, creating art, and spending time with friends/family and my 2.5-year-old pup, Luffy (“Lu” + “FEE”).
